Fall is here and that means the start of colder days and nights. So if you have already turned on your furnace this year, you might have noticed a bad smell coming from the the duct system. The most common smell will be that of burning dust that has settled inside the furnace on the heat exchanger. To see just how dirty your duct system is, you can do the following:
- Inspect the return filters and the return duct line. Most homes will have 1-2 return duct lines into your furnace. Some return lines will have filters installed right at the vent cover while others will have them inside the furnace. Upon inspection you will see the condition of how dirty your lines are, and whether a cleaning is need.
- Inspect the supply lines. Remove the vent cover and take a picture inside to see the duct line. Vents that are on the floor tend to get dirtier, especially if you have a pet in the house.
- Pay attention to see how fast dust will accumulate on your furniture when you are actively using your furnace.
FRESHX offers a complete residential system duct cleaning. We take apart the blower fan and clean the components inside the furnace, as well as cleaning the supply and return duct lines. We can also inspect the integrity of the duct lines and make minor repairs where necessary.
